My brother is a veteran and fomer USMC officer and current employee of the Federal Government, I fly the flag and visited Ground Zero when it was a smoking hole in the ground to honor my republican friend Charles Henry Karkzewski who died as the south tower collapsed on 09/11/01. Do not even try to attack my patriotism. The overwhelming right wing response from these sites is outright combative, insulting and quite frankly, all too common and predictable. You all deserve the crap being dished up from these morally reprehensible fools in the current Presidential Regime! I and a growing number of folks from either side of the aisle have had enough of this President and thank the stars that he will not be around much longer. It will take decades to overcome the financial, political, moral and deceitful hole he and his cronies will leave behind along with all the children he “promised” not to leave behind! because any bush supporter cannot rely on factual data in a fair debate, so they mirror their heros strategy and send up smoke to distract from a logical discourse. They flood the air with falsehoods and dispersions too numerous to respond to each one individually before the next is cast. Replies from Republicans and conservatives are nasty?? Have you ever looked at the replies from the Democrats and liberals when someone poses a question favoring Bush? Bush (and often the questioner) are compared to Hitler, facists, murderers, liars, homophobes, demagogues, islamaphobes and much more.
Seems to me that the answer to your question is BOTH sides often react that way. How pretentious of you to pose such a holier-than-thou question!
I think it is because the majority of Americans do really care about our military (pray for them, etc..) but do not support the war in Iraq. Most people get angry if their patriotism is questioned just because they disagree. Also, the majority of Americans fall under the economic level which benefits from the Bush admin.’s policies.
Bush’s supporters, on the other hand, like to see themselves as the guardians of American morality. They don’t answer with fact or reason, they just tell their opposition “You’re wrong.” Or even worse “You are not only unpatriotic, but unChristian.” It’s like little children. Others go along with them out of fear of being attacked themselves. Think Rush Limbaugh or G. Gordon Liddy.
