I know if you’re in communications, they can deploy you. But is the risk severely much less? Would you have to take your rifle with you anyway if you’re going to set up communication networks while deployed in the USMC?
I’m talking about being deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq and possibly North Korea.
I am not gonna explain things to you that you wont understand.
There are many variables that come into play. It depends on your exact MOS. Some communication MOS’s get sent with infantry units.
Just read here for an explanationhttp://lavadog23.webs.com/infantrymoskia…
First off, all Marines are Marines first. Whatever their other MOS that is secondary. Yes, you take your rifle with you everywhere you go. Yes, you are going into a warzone. Yes, you may get shot. Yes, you may get killed.
Now… if you are on patrol and spot an enemy unit, what is your first target? You don’t want them to be able to give away your position, right? The enemy thinks the same way. The good news is that you don’t have a six-foot antenna towering over your head like in WW2 movies.
But get it straight: being in the Marines is not a cakewalk, there are no guarantees you’ll come home alive. Period.
consider this. a radio antennae might as well be a giant sign hanging up with a big arrow saying hey look, i’m right here.
communications is a primary target
