Has anyone actually done this through the website anysoldier.com? I requested the address and got one for a troop in Iraq from my state, so I thought it would be cool. I’m going to send a lot of “essentials,” do they really need those do you think? I don’t have a lot of money and I don’t want to spend money on things they won’t use… but if they really would use them I would be more than happy to spend it!
http://www.anysoldier.com works. You have to send packages to a particular person, not just a unit. They also like mail.
as a soldier I guarantee you anything you send them will be used. and just because you may not be related to you is no reason not to send them a carepackage. While I was overseas my unit received carepackages and greeting cards from a variety of groups and indiviuals alike. It boosts our moral to know that people in our home towns support us
Anysoldier.com is greatly appreciated overseas, as like you said, some soldiers don’t get too much. Some needed things would be snacks are usually a favorite, but other things like toiletries, various portable lights (flashlights, taplights, reading lights), better weapons cleaning supplies, just use your imagination, but make sure that you make the package unisex, as the recipient could be either male or female.
When a friend of mine was sending me a care package the post office inquired if there were any pork or porn products in the package, so I’d avoid those kinds of things (what a combination too!)
I hope this helps you out, as it will help a soldier out!
I adopted a soldier in Iraq and sent carepackages to him. They love and appreciate anything you can send them. They also love getting cards and mail. And, no it doesn’t have to be your family member. I know of several people that have adopted a soldier, non related.
I wouldn’t send it unless it had an actual name and unit on it cause I’d say that it’d have a good chance of just ending up in a dead letter office. I wouldn’t worry too much on toiletry items and stuff like that, cause they’ll access to stuff like that a px. I think they may be alittle more excited to get some novalty items like, magazines, books, dvds, something to occupy their free time. Food is always a hit, as long as its non-perishable. slim jims, cheese wiz, ect.
Keep up the good work.
I posted a similar question when I first joined this site. I got chewed up by a few people who thought sending them something would be dangerous to the soldier.
Now, I am not sure why but, I can tell you to follow your heart! If you feel like you need to do this then, you do as you think and feel is right.
I was told to go to the local VFW in my area as they could get me all the information I needed and they have alot that I could help with! Well, that did not “pan” out for me. So, I will not suggest this to you.
Truly, all I know to do is to go with your heart and do what you feel is the right thing to do.
Having “been there, done that” anything you can send will be appreciated. Non-perishables like “Cheese Whiz”, canned tuna, candy, etc, will make the day of a US service member. The best way to do this though is through the USO or some other Service Organization. I don’t like the any soldier.com website, and feel that perhaps they are gathering information on both our troops, and those that support them. Either take your supplies to your closest base, post, etc, or contact the USO for a correct address. Our troops will appreciate it!
