I am looking for replacement insurance value information on a M1911 Colt .45 – serial #209XXX, very good to excellent condition with 98% of original bluing intact. I have the official letter from Colt stating that the gun was purchased by the USMC in 1917 one of 200 on the purchase order – Colt letter. The weapon is fully functional and still retains it’s original holster, belt and ammo clip with 3 magazines. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you for your time
The normal market for such a gun in the described condition is between 2000 and 3000. Since this gun is traced to the Marines, you could improve it’s value if you could tie it to a particular man or place. We just appraised a WW2 issue gun for 2800. What drove the value on that gun was it’s completeness, and the fact that the owner had all the documentation showing it’s original issue to his father, who flew navy Corsairs during the war. His father brought the gun and holster back from the war.
If you find someone who wants it with all of it’s documentation and accrutrements, it may go as high as $10,000 and up.
Collector guns are like collector cars: if nobody wants them, they have no monetary value.
check out the Blue Book of gun values,it lists up to date real values of firearms and is very accurate, this is going to be one of the sources your insurance company turns to should you ever file a claim
