I was wondering if i was to join the navy or marines do they depend on your grades a lot? my grades are good, 90’s and up and a 83. i am very physical and compete on varsity lacrosse, basketball, and soccer. i have really good leader skills. i am a sophomore in high school. I can do a lot of endurance hard work ( i know it doesnt compare to the M’s/N but is still really good) do i have to go to college to become a S.E.A.L. or just do BUD/s and the other training exercises? same for the marine special ops? just wondering, thanks and is there anyway i can start preparing other then physically?
Your grades in school dont matter as long as you graduated or have a GED. They’ll give you the asvab test before you join. Dont worry about being a leader because you’ll be a pawn for the first few years anyway.
Physically it doesn’t take much to get through Marine bootcamp (btw i’m a Marine infantryman). It just takes mental toughness. If I were you Id try to talk to the special ops guys before you try to get into it. I went into RECON and got kicked out of ARS for punching an instructor, which explains why i’m infantry. Special ops aren’t what you imagine like ghost recon or any of that, its just guys with high speed gear and all these fancy schools under their belt, that get sent on the missions that need stealth, like CAPTURING a high value individual. If you want to do the fighting then join the infantry, its your choice.
For SEAL, mentally youve gotta be self disciplined to the max, and hard core. Its not for the faint of heart. Youve either got what it takes or you dont. if you think youre ready, then your not ready. Knowing is the only answer. Remember, failure for a SEAL is not an option. Its good that youve got good grades. SEALs arent bonehead killing machines, they got what it takes to succeed in the classroom and are top notch athletically. Basically its all mental and physical stress like youve never experienced before. Remember you can always talk with a recruiter, its a lot easier than you think
they really dont look at your grades unless you are wanting to go in as an officer by getting a rotc scholarship or going to one of the service academys and no navy seals is an enlisted job and the marine special ops is also enlisted
you need to start preparing yourself mentally like start pushing yourself and start getting tougher and if you are wanting to do any kind of special forces i would try to get some martial arts training to kind of set you apart.
You only need a high school diploma to get into the military and the grades really are not important. They give you the ASVAB to start and several other standardized tests later to help determine what field you can go into. However, to start, the ASVAB is the most important test you will take.
If SEALS is what your shooting for. Physical fitness has it’s place. But the guys I would party with while I was stationed at Coronado would tell me it was more of a mental thing. At some point your body is going to give out, no way around that. But being able to keep your mind sharp under high stress is the key. Or so I was told.
Good luck to ya.
your grades dont matter as long as you are on track to graduate.
kill your body and eat protein bars thats what they did at boot camp for us.
have a marine quarterdeck you for like 30 minutes lol
