I was in the USMC and did 2 tours in Iraq did that whole thing. Anyways after I got out I applied to about 20 jobs. Im talking about everything from McDonalds because no one was hiring and I got pissed off to more high paying jobs. No one wanted to hire me and im talking I was up against Teenagers and they still got hired over me. It took me about 3 months to finally get some one to hire me. Whats was going on?
Sweetie my husband and I are in the same situation you are in completely. My husband came out and did the same thing you did and applied to literally dozens of jobs before getting discouraged and in the end going back to school. (Which he had to drop out of due to the high prices or gas right now, but that’s another story.)
I as well had the same problem right after getting out. I ended up volunteering some time with the young marines and that helped me get a job working for the school district.
Here is a great website i found that might help you.http://www.hirevetsfirst.gov/
That also gives links to career fares that hire vets 1st.
If that fails look into going to school and using chapter 30 voc rehab , not the sh!tty g.i bill which is nothing but problems.
Also find your local VFW and or American Legion to help you out.
Good luck Hun, i feel your pain. If you want i can give you my email address if you need any help with anything.
Do you have any service connected disabilities?
WHOEVER IS THE JACKA$$ WHO GAVE ME THE THUMBS DOWN IS AN IDIOT AND A VETERAN HATER
There is no more respect for the military people anymore. This administration is so full of BS, “let’s honor our vets”, “let’s salute our vets”. They have done more damage by using and abusing those who are in the military. Your best bet, don’t even mention military service period. It was different during the Vietnam War, afterwards, everyone felt sorry for us, (we sure the hell didn’t want or need that!) So a program was brought about to “hire a Vietnam Vet first!” This country, this administration is BS. You did their bidding, they got what they wanted. For you? Up yours! Know you know the rest of the story!
I am not an expert like this but my mom is a government worker. She works for CPOC-Civilian Personnel Something Center. Anyways you should have been able to get a job especially since you’re a veteran. Now since you said no one would hire you they could have been discriminating veterans. I don’t know why kind of job you have now but maybe you should think about working for the government as a civilian. I’m sorry that you had a hard time getting a job though.
I feel the same way. Guess what? I found out the hard way my MOS training don’t mean squat (Im an ex army supply clerk.) and the only job I qualify for is security or if you have some education is police officer. And the police officer job is more strict about whom they hire, which means security more likely the job you going to get quicker. The pay blows and their are no benefits and no chance of advancement unless you start your own company. I am going re enlist
You’re not alone. I have people who are even in the Air Force and they’re having a rough time finding a job too.
Teens are suckers for money really, so they want money and will stick with the job if they would really want it.
And besides, people have the wrong idea about the military. They think that veterans and military men are already taken care of.
I hope this helped you understand a little bit.
A friend had the same problem. He was enlisted in the marine corps for 2 years with an MOS in infantry. Once he was out and tried to get a civilan job no one hired him until he was hired at an Albertsons grocery store. I don’t know whats going. maybe because people in the military expect more pay i dont know?
Think about revising your resume. A well written resume Will get you a job. Now that you have a great resume, work on a great interview. You can find tips on “How to interview for a job” on line (dress, questions that may be asked, etc..).
When you went for the interview did you have grenades strapped onto your lapels. Hey, I don’t care how much these conservatives say they support the troops, they only support you when you are fighting after that they could care less about you.
job market sucks for everybody, where ever you go there you are, all that don’t mean much if you’re you sometimes. It’s your persona, attitude, connections. What skills do you have?
I’ve read that companies are concerned about PTSD, probably your next job will be much easier to get now that you’re in a civilian role. It’s sad, our troops should get special priority for their service.
i feel your pain, man! all I can say is maybe move to an area with more jobs and opportunities
They were scared of you. Straight up.
I sent you an email.
