I am paralyzed waist down. He spit right in my face and yelled murderer. He was a young guy in his 20s.
I was so pissed last night, I wanted to kill him. I cooled off this morning
Why did this happen to me? Do you know of any other iraq vets this happened to or am i the only one

With all due respect, I think you’re full of it.
The Bible and other accounts speak of war. Everyone wants God or the gods on their side. If God is the source of love to you, forgive. I lived in a chair for a time and felt I still was a whole man. One who spits on another’s face seems to me to have degraded himself. If you choose to repent, you may find your self no longer stuck in the past, and the pain of the present.
I think what he did was less cruel than what you did there. War is not God’s way to solve problems. You packed your weapons and travelled thousands of miles overseas to make war on a foreign country depending on your leader’s deceiving & false assumptions to prevent an assumed future attack. I am an Iraqi & also a christian still living the aftermath, and I assure you that your war didn’t bring any goodness to this country, on the contrary, misery is worst than before.

I personally don’t know of anyone this has happened to but I have heard of it happening, more than once.
You can hold your head high, whether or not you killed anyone in combat.
I have never been in combat, but I figure it’s either them or you.
It’s people like you that give the guy that spat in your face the freedom to do so.
It may seem strange, but liberty is worth fighting for, you know that!

While I have never agreed with the Iraq war (in my opinion, a horrendous waste of money and manpower), I respect anyone who has put on a uniform and gone into harm’s way. The man who spat on you is a coward and as someone else pointed out, your sacrifice gives him the freedom to act like an idiot. He deserves a swift kick in the a**…or he should be sentenced to a term of community service working with vets. It might teach him to treat those who serve their country with a little more respect. Go down to your local VA center–you’ll probably meet others with a similar story.

Don’t take it personally – the thing is, people like that “need” someone to inflict their anger on and you can’t vent at a system.
I’m sorry you had to go through that – obviously this was a rude, careless, thoughtless and ignorant person who had no concept of thinking about who you were, what you’d been through (and are going through).

Hi, Those who stand up for right are usually persecuted. It amazes me that after Winston Churchill lead brittain in victory against impossible odds he lost the next election. But he won the one after. Also Jesus healed the sick, fed the hungry, raised the dead and preached the truth, but they crucified Him. There are many who appreciate soldiers as we see on national remembrance days. Keep looking up. nev r

I watched the guys come home after Viet Nam and they had to defend themselves against the stories of whole villages like My Lai being wiped out by our guys.

Some people are ignorant and have no brain. To spit in the face of a man who is crippled in a sign of weakness. The person wouldn’t do this to a walking marine vet. It is a punk move and this person is a lame and should be beat good.
People died on both sides and people are allowed to be angry you know…
He could have been nicer about it but such is life, did you want a pat on the back and a jolly good chap speech from the rest of the world? if that were the case you chose the wrong job.

Hmm. I have some questions about this. How did this guy know you were a veteran of the Iraq war? Had you been bragging about your participation?
Secondly, you chose to go to Iraq and fight in what was, and is, a morally unjust war. You may have been manipulated.. you may have felt duty-bound… you may have just been following orders, but you still did it.
While I have little doubt you, personally, likely behaved heroically when you were in Iraq, the real heroes were the ones who refused to be deployed or the conscientious objectors or even the 10,000 or so soldiers who went AWOL on moral grounds.
All that said, I don’t think it is fair to blame you, specifically, for the war. I’m sure that person would much rather have spat on Bush, Cheney or Rumsfeld. Not that spitting on people is an effective means of communication, because it isn’t. I wouldn’t have spat on you because spitting on you isn’t a solution, it doesn’t do anything positive. As much as I find the war reprehensible, spitting on you isn’t how I’d have expressed my disdain.
It’s possible that guy was a coward. I mean, would he have spat in your face had you been in top physical condition? You see, he could be doing any number of things to bring the war to an end and to ensure those who started it are brought to justice, but instead he made the easy choice of attacking you and that’s what makes him a coward. But hey, you made the easy choice too, you could have refused deployment and it, I assume, cost you the use of your legs.
So now the real question becomes, why aren’t you off spitting in the faces of those responsible for the war? Or better yet, find a more effective way of bringing them to justice. You still have a chance of being a hero. Right now, you’re just another victim.
