Just wondering because my sister might deploy sometime next year. She is in a reserve unit and is a combat photographer, will she be with the rest of her unit even though she is the only combat photographer there? About how long will she be in Iraq? Her reserve unit has MP’s will she temporarily work as an MP instead of combat photography? I know i should ask my sister but i’d like to know what to expect so i don’t freak out about it when she tells me.
Your sister is a C/P, that means she’ll shoot a camera or video. She will, in all likelihood work with 1st, 2nd or 3rd PAO. They don’t, as a rule, spend all their time in the CZ. Usually, they go in shoot their shots and get out. However, she’s going to need the staples….
Dry gatoraide (Anything to flavor the water)
Toiletries (Yep, the female kind too)
Beef Jerky (The big bag or 12)
Foot powder (Might want to think about body powder)
SALTED Peanuts
Chocolate (Preferably the non-melting kind)
Socks (Hopefully dark. So they don’t stand out)
T-Shirts
Books
DVD’s
Batteries (For her electronics)
Baby wipes (The more, the better)
Sunblock
Lotion
Chapstick
Maybe some home baked cookies?
She’s reserve as a PAO, no she will not be an M/P, however, she is a Marine. Therefore, she is a basic rifleman.
Any other questions? I’ll be happy to answer or find the answer.
Tell you sister, Semper Fi,
Gunny
you really never can tell what she will end up doing its up to her superiors when she gets there
She will probably be there for a while seen as how she will be doing MP duty. That’s a pretty un-safe job, granted they have guns, and vests, I wouldn’t want to be there. I would be worried. I don’t want you to be freaked out, but the Marines are the ones that usually die first.
Good luck. My husband’s been there 3 times.
Deployments happen in an instant. When I was deployed I got a knock on the door(Im acive duty) telling me I was deploying at 0400 next morning, pack the ruck sack, and do not call anyone under any circumstances.
